AOSCA Certified Matterhorn™ CBG Seeds & Starts

Lineage: Carmagnola
Original Breeder:  Matthias Ghidossi
| Swiss Cannabinoid

Matterhorn™ CBG is a groundbreaking strain that offers previously unavailable levels of CBG. This strain offers farmers a way to diversify their crops to meet the growing demand for CBG from consumers.

This strain of hemp was created by Italian breeder Matthias Ghidossi and has been making waves in the hemp world. With the soaring citrus scent of lemon and lime, it is a prime candidate for extraction as well as a smokable product.

Terpene Profile: Effervescent lemon and lime with skunky notes of hops.

In The Field

Difficulty: Easy to farm
Resiliency: High
Compliance: CBG 15%*, THC 0.09%*

Expect big results when you plant Matterhorn CBG. This remarkably vigorous strain was bred from the industrial hemp strain Carmagnola, which has been farmed in Europe for over 15 years. Carmagnola was grown for fiber and CBD and so you can expect substantial height and girth. It is a resilient plant that grows in almost every environment. Matterhorn grows to be 2 meters tall and is a big bushy plant.

The reliably low levels of THC make this a natural choice for hemp farmers. The low THC levels also mean that you can leave this in the field to grow while you harvest other strains without the THC levels becoming noncompliant. Matterhorn has two years of field experience and the variety from which it comes is one of the most established hemp strains around.

Farming Matterhorn

The predictable growing characteristics of Matterhorn are a dream for any hemp farmers. Normal germination time is 48 hours with maturity being reached at 8 to 9 weeks. With High Grade’s normal excellent germination rate of 95%, you are sure to have a carpet of seedlings in just days. High Grade’s usual high-performing seeds won’t let you down with a feminization rate of just 1 male per 4,000 females.

Sowing time is from late May / early June and the harvest time is from mid-September to early October. Biomass is above 1.5 tons per hectare.

Matterhorn CBG has two years of field trials and has proven itself to be uniform, stable, and unique. CBG levels can be up to 15% and THC levels are an extraordinary 0.09%

The high level of CBG and easy THC compliance make it a good option for farmers looking to get into the CBG market or to diversify. Germination rates are at 95% and feminization rates are 98%, producing one male to every 4000 females.

End Product Details

Beyond the aesthetic attraction of this varietal, the medicinal potential of CBG is garnering much attention. Because CBG is the precursor, or mother cannabinoid molecule, of all the other cannabinoids, it is being heralded as the next big thing. CBG connects with both CB1 and CB2 receptors and it has the potential to provide relief for many conditions. Scientific research is eagerly looking at this cannabinoid.

Besides being an ideal candidate for CBG extraction, Matterhorn is also highly smokable. The breeder paid close attention to the terpene profile which is described as having effervescent notes of citrus with notes of lemon and lime.

With levels of CBG levels up to 15%, this is a sought after strain that the market always has room for.

The Definitive Guide on High- CBG Hemp

One of our partners and fellow hemp breeder, Matthias Ghidossi, founder of Swiss Cannabinoid, has been working for years to cultivate his own terpene and cannabinoid-rich crops. Through a science-based approach, he surveyed thousands of varietals. In 2016, he selected his first CBG variety. Working with several European geneticists and a Swiss pharmaceutical company on trials, he landed on Matterhorn CBG. In 2019, he registered Matterhorn (Perugina) CBG at CPVO Europe.

“CBG is a cannabinoid we chose to focus on due to its powerful efficacy in early trials. Over the past few years, more and more research has been conducted to understand the value of CBG. The early results of clinical testing in Europe are creating a lot of excitement in the fields of science and medicine,” said Matthias Ghidossi.

At High Grade, we have focused our breeding program and partnerships to ensure farmers can grow proven, strong, and diverse genetics. Leading the way in CBG has been a logical next step – both in advancing the agricultural industry and also in improving the availability of CBG products to consumers.
